The problem of power was of great importance in Michel Foucault's philosophical work. He parted clearly with the marxist interpretations of power relations, arguing that power is not essentially that, for Foucault, power itself is the real subject of history: [For Foucault] the transmutation of power emanates from the dark and mysterious backdrop of "history without a subject." Foucault's genealogical method, in my opinion, continues the confusion between history without a transcendental subject and history without knowledge- Foucault then develops a holistic account of power and uses methods not too dissimilar to the astonishing and outstanding Medieval Islamic polymaths scholars Alhazen, Ibn Sīnā,and Ibn Khaldūn and to a lesser extant prominent science figures from 20th century science such as;Gregory Bateson, James Lovelock(the founder of Gaia hypothesis) and Robert N. Proctor(Proctor who coined the term The Subject and Power — Foucault, Michel. “ The Subject and Power.” In Beyond Structuralism and Hermeneutics, edited by H. Dreyfus and P. Rabinow, 208-226.

Foucault is not critical of considering these phenomena as "power", but claims that these theories of power cannot completely describe all forms of power. Foucault also claims that liberal definition of power has effectively hidden other forms of power to the extent that people have uncritically accepted them.

For, as Foucault shows, what he was always describing was the nature of power in society; not the conventional treatment of power that concentrates on powerful individuals and repressive institutions, but the much more pervasive and insidious mechanisms by which power "reaches into the very grain of individuals, touches their bodies and inserts itself into their actions and attitudes, their 2021-04-10 2021-04-06 2016-04-05 · Foucault insists that power “is everywhere, not because it embraces everything, but because it comes from everywhere.” He acknowledges there is no power that is exercised without a series of aims that it results from the choice or decision of an individual subject.” Se hela listan på powercube.net Foucault therefore makes clear that, in itself, power "is not a renunciation of freedom, a transference of rights, the power of each and all delegated to a few" .

Foucault power

Michel Foucault had some truly brilliant and important insights about power, insights that have had an important influence on some of today’s most prominent activist movements, and that arguably should be having more of an influence on others. It’s true that there’s a lot to take issue with in his work, but there’s also a lot to be inspired by.

This process objectivizes him. Examples are the mad and the sane, the sick and the healthy, the criminals and the "good boys." Finally, I have sought to study-it is my current work-the way a human being turns himself into a subject. Foucault showed how the sovereign power of Leviathan (think crowns, congresses and capital) has over the past 200 years come to confront two new forms of power: disciplinary power (which he also called anatomo-politics because of its detailed attention to training the human body) and bio-politics.
