The Gustav Mahler Society of New York is dedicated to the advancement and promotion of greater awareness and understanding of the music of Gustav Mahler through the dissemination of information about the composer and his works supplemented by a variety of programs and performances . MahlerFest was bestowed the IGMS Mahler Gold Medal as part of the IGMS 50th anniversary celebration. Created to recognize major artists, arts organizations, and scholars for their outstanding contributions to all things Mahler, the medals have been awarded 42 times since the IGMS founding in 1955. The Society brings together the ever growing number of people who share a love for Mahler’s music. By becoming a member you will enjoy many benefits. Throughout the year there are opportunities to hear noted scholars of Mahler’s life and work, but we also hold events such as the Annual Dinner whose focus is primarily a social one. I am pleased to announce that the October Newsletter has just been published and with it, details of our meeting and conference in 2019, to be held … Mahler was diagnosed with heart disease and returned to Austria for treatment, but passed away on May 18, 1911, soon after his arrival.
